A page is not a record.
Notion is where your team writes things down. A Notion database is a view over pages, and it inherits the limits of a page — relations that stop at a hundred, an API that averages three requests a second. Fine for notes. Thin for the table the business actually runs on.
How to read this page
We made this page, so read it that way. Every Notion limit on it is a number Notion publishes — from their pricing page and their API reference, read on 2 August 2026. There is no speed claim about Notion anywhere on it, because we haven’t measured theirs.
A hundred is a number you will meet.
These are the three limits that turn up when a Notion database becomes an operational one. None of them is a criticism of Notion — they are exactly what you would expect of a product whose unit is a page.

A multi-select property also stops at 100 options, and a single API request carries at most 1,000 blocks or 500 KB. Fine for a page. Tight for a table that a script writes to.
Who can see which rows is a Business feature.
On Notion, granular database permissions arrive on Business, at twenty dollars a seat. Page history is seven days on Free, thirty on Plus, ninety on Business. Here, roles are per database on every plan, because there is only one plan.

Documents — by design. Nested pages, a wiki, comments threaded through the writing. We ship a rich-text field and stop there, because a database that also wants to be a word processor is neither.
That’s why most teams run both, and why this page is about one table at a time: the one that outgrew a page and now needs types, links and an API that answers faster than three requests a second.

Bring the one table that outgrew it
Notion exports a database as CSV, and ours imports CSV and Excel. An honest note: a Notion export flattens relations into text, so links between tables are rebuilt here rather than carried across — worth knowing before you start, and the reason to move one table rather than a workspace.
