Terms of service

What Tabla is
Tabla is a hosted database service: an account holds databases, databases hold tables, and tables hold the records a customer puts in them. The service is operated by an individual, not a company, and these terms are the agreement between that operator and each account holder.
The data is the customer’s
Everything an account puts into Tabla — records, tables, files — belongs to that account. The operator claims no rights over it and reads it only when strictly needed to run the service or to help with a support request the account itself made.
Export is always available
A full export of any database — the data as spreadsheet-readable files plus a description of its structure — is available from inside the product at any time, at no charge. Leaving with everything is a feature, not a negotiation.
Deletion
Deleted records are kept in a trash for 7 days, during which they can be restored. After that they are removed permanently. Deleting a table, a database, or an account is permanent once confirmed.
Acceptable use
The service may not be used to store or distribute material that is illegal, to attack other systems, or to send unsolicited bulk email. The operator may suspend an account that does these things; suspension locks the account but does not delete its data.
Service and liability
The service is provided as it is, with real care but without a formal uptime guarantee while it is operated by one person. Nightly copies of all data are kept in a separate location. To the extent the law allows, the operator’s liability is limited to the amount the account paid for the service in the preceding twelve months.
Changes
If these terms change in a way that matters, account holders are told by email before the change takes effect.
