Created time, last modified time, created by and autonumber

Four field types Tabla fills in: when a record was made, when it last changed, who made it, and its running number — sortable, filterable, never typed.

Updated October 2026

Every record already knows when it was made, when it last changed, who made it, and where it falls in the order records were added. These four field types put that on screen as a column — something you can sort by, filter on, and group by — without anyone typing it.

Field type Shows Reads like
Created time when the record was made a date and time
Last modified time when any of its values last changed a date and time
Created by who made it a member: their name and face
Autonumber its number, counting up as records are added a number

Add one

  1. Open the field menu and choose the type — the four sit together under record.
  2. Name it. For the two times, pick how the date and the time read; that's the only setting.

The values are there straight away, for every record the table already has: nothing is copied or backfilled, because the field shows what the record was carrying all along.

Filled in by Tabla

All four are read-only. A cell can't be edited, pasted into or cleared, and a write over the API is refused with a sentence saying so. Duplicating a record gives the copy its own: a new number, a new created time, and you as its creator.

Autonumber never goes back. A deleted record's number isn't handed to the next one, so a gap means something was deleted — the same rule Airtable's autonumber follows.

Sorting, filtering, grouping

  • Sort a table newest first by Created time, or by Autonumber for the order records came in.
  • Filter Created time like any date — is within one week ago is "added this week" — and Last modified time to find records nobody has touched in a month.
  • Filter Created by with a person picker, including Me: one "Added by is Me" view shows each teammate the records they made.
  • Group by Created time by day, week or month.

In a formula

Created time, Last modified time and Autonumber feed a formula like any date or number: "INV-" & {No} makes an invoice code, and DATETIME_DIFF(TODAY(), {Added}, "days") counts days since a lead came in. Created by can't feed a formula yet. A formula can also ask for the times directly with CREATED_TIME() and LAST_MODIFIED_TIME(), with no field at all.

Over the API

Every record already carries created_at and updated_at beside its fields; these field types add the same facts under a field name of your choosing, which is what a view, an export or a Make scenario reading by field name wants. Created by reads as the creator's email.

Tabla is the database we build these on.

A no-code database with real Postgres underneath: every feature on every plan, a million records per database, and your whole database back out in one file, any day.
